Meet dan

 
 

Dan was born in Whistler, BC and graduated from school in Pemberton where he earned himself a full scholarship to Capilano Universities film program based on his short film submissions. At the age of 18 he began his film career as a production assistant on Warner Bros. Smallville.

He has since spent the last 20 years working steadily, the past 10 years have been dedicated to his roll as a full time 1st Assistant Director. Dan has extensive knowledge of the crews in Vancouver and his on set experience is varied and vast. His calm demeanor, incessant attention to detail and continued love of film make him an ideal candidate for any film or television production, no matter the size or scope.

A 1st AD is responsible for scheduling, running and maintaining a safe set and working environment for the cast and crew. Additionally they work closely with the director to organize and achieve the shots desired for each scene, while keeping to shooting schedule agreed upon by the production team.

A 2nd Assistant Director coordinates the movements of cast and crew based on the schedule provided by the 1st AD. While in this roll they create the daily call-sheet, organized ADR sessions, photo-shoots, cast pick-ups and special equipment requirements. They also Assist running splinter units and setting background performers as required.

A 3rd Assistant Director runs the cast and hair-make-up trailers, ensuring that the cast are processed and dressed according to the call-sheet. Additionally they undertake the creation and maintaining of the daily production report while working closely with accounting and production to track each day’s progress.

CERTIFICATIONS

 

Safety and preparedness on set can mean the difference between a successful day and a long exhausting, if not dangerous, experience for everyone. I do the utmost to ensure that I am not only knowledgeable about information important to local productions but also about the local environments, hazards, and frequently used equipment. Continuing my education in areas outside of film I am better able to excel in my role as 1st Assistant Director.  It is always important to me that the entire cast and crew are safe.
